RECORDER
New Yorker Carolyn Jean Smith has had a life long love
for the recorder, beginning studies when she was nine. While working on
her Master of Music degree in Early Music at the Longy School of Music,
she joined Stämbandet in 1993 and was a founding member of the recorder-voice-harpsichord
ensemble, Cantata à Trois.
Cina Wertheim, a native of Massachusetts,
began studying woodwinds at the age of five. She has played flute and
recorder for a variety of ensembles including the New England Conservatory
Chamber Ensemble and the Longy Recorder Ensemble. Cina began playing with
Stämbandet in 1994.
GUITAR
An extraordinary guitarist, Tom Young is equally at ease
in the folk rhythms of Scandinavian music as he is in his own jazz duo,
Acousticity. From southern California, where he remembers his grandfather
playing guitar at barnyard dances, Tom hasperformed for rock, jazz, and
theater bands and as a solo guitarist. He joined Stämbandet in 1991
and has written a number of guitar arrangements of Scandinavian songs.
STRING BASS
Suzanne Clark has played string bass with Stämbandet
since 1991. A New Englander, she has a strong professional background
with array of show band, theater, music revue and jazz credits. She counts
among her principal influences the Beatles, Oscar Pettiford and Neils
Pedersen. Through playing with Stämbandet, Suzanne has developed
a keen stylistic awareness of the range of Scandinavian folk music. |
